Rater Training
If you would like to learn more about becoming an Energy Rater, your first step should be to read this document.
As an accredited home energy rater training provider, EEHM pulls from the experience of its principal, Mark Jansen. Mark has been involved in the national leadership of RESNET since its inception and has served as the RESNET Chairman of the Training and Education Committee for several years. Mark has been a rater and a provider for over 100,000 ratings and has trained over 400 prospective raters.

Energy Efficient Homes Midwest, Inc. has the following dates scheduled for Rater Training class at our office in Indianapolis.

The class is on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested please fill out the application at the bottom of this page. Once you have submitted this, you will be contacted regarding availability. The cost for each participant is $1375.00 This price includes the Home Energy Rating Systems Handbook and CD by IBS Advisors, which you will receive the first day of class, and our company’s Rater Training Manual which will be mailed to you at the address you provide. Once payment is received, your place in the class is reserved and payment is non-refundable. You will need a Master Card or Visa to pay for the online Rater Certification Exam that is a RESNET requirement in order to be certified as a Home Energy Rater. (Test fee-$50.00) You will need a wireless internet connection in order to take the Test.
A potential rater should have basic geometry and algebra aptitude, organizational skills, plus a working knowledge of the computer. A background in building science and knowledge of construction is helpful, but not required.
A certified Energy Rater needs to work with an accredited Home Energy Rater Provider. The class will provide you with the knowledge necessary to perform energy ratings on new and existing homes. The class will also address how to develop a market for ratings in your area.

You might consider joining RESNET as it can offer you many services such as a free subscription to Home Energy Magazine, or fulfilling your insurance needs.

Laptop computer- System Requirements for Software:
OS: Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, or Mac running Windows
CPU: 200MHz or better
RAM: 64 MB or better
Disk: 20 MB or better free disc space
Other: CD-ROM Drive for software installation, Tape measure, flashlight, thumb drive, Internet Explorer web browser, External mouse, Wireless internet, Big Button Calculator, Architectural Scale, 2006 RESNET Standards, RESNET Standards of Practice and Study Guide ---You can view these 3 documents at resnet.us. We will mail you a hard copy of the RESNET Standards with the manual.
One resource you are required to invest in and bring with you to the class is: “Residential Energy” ($45) by John Krigger and Chris Dorsi at http://www.srmi.biz/. As mentioned above, our company will also mail you a manual and you will need to study these materials before the class if you expect to pass the test.
Web-browsing is allowed during the test. You should take some time to familiarize yourself with the RESNET website (resnet.us).
For hotel information search the Intersection of I-69 and East 96th Street in Indianapolis.
The Studio 6 (317-913-1920) at about $200/wk is the most reasonable.
Class Hours: Monday - 9-5, Tuesday through Friday - 8:30-5, Saturday - 8:30-11.
Lunch will be on your own.
Blower door and duct depressurization equipment is necessary to perform ratings. You do not need to bring this equipment to the class. A 5% discount is available to members of RESNET at www.energyconservatory.com. A base blower door is approximately $2500 Duct Depressurization equipment is approximately $1800. You will also want Tectite Software and consumables such as booties and Duct Mask $130 for 6 rolls.
